The importance of bottleneck analysis in any organization cannot be overstated. Bottleneck analysis is at the core of any continuous improvement process. Because bottlenecks restrict throughput, there is no point on working on any process other than that which is a bottleneck. Sadly many organizations are proud that they have identified their bottlenecks, but do little or nothing to actually eliminate them.

What is the Goal? The Goal is to Make Money!
How one knows the goal is being achieved:
Did throughput increase?
Did inventory decrease?
Did total costs decrease?
If resources are expended on any process other than a bottleneck, there will be no improvement in bottom line profit. Throughput will not increase. Inventory will increase. Labour and total costs will increase.
